MA IN MATHEMATICS
Mathematics plays an essential part in every area of modern technology. Recognizing this diverse and important role of mathematics, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a flexible Master of Arts in Mathematics graduate program built on a core of required courses and a wide range of specialized electives. The MA in Mathematics is ideal for those who have completed undergraduate coursework through multivariate calculus and linear algebra, and is a gateway to a multitude of in-demand careers and entrance to top PhD programs.
Students may complete their degree on a full or part-time basis, and have the flexibility to take elective courses in the MS in Applied Statistics program.
We also offer Graduate and Post-Master's Certificates in Math.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Students work closely with their advisors to select courses to best match their career aspirations. Degree Requirements
Each student is required to complete 30 credit hours including:
- MAT 7660 Linear Algebra
- MAT 9000 Graduate Math Seminar (3 credits): Supervised study of selected topics in mathematics with presentations by individual students. This course is generally taken at the end of the program.
- At least one course in pure mathematics (such as: MAT 7600- Advanced Calculus, MAT 7610 - Complex Analysis, MAT 8650- Abstract Algebra, MAT 8700 - Topology, MAT 7770 - Number Theory, MAT 8600 - Real Analysis).
- Electives: up to four courses may be chosen from Statistics courses (such as: MAT 7404 - Statistical Methods, MAT 8400 - Statistical Theory, etc.).聽
