GRADUATE CERTIFICATES IN MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers three graduate certificate programs as options for you to deepen your knowledge and show formal recognition for advanced study without enrolling in a full master's program.
GRADUATE CERTIFICATES
The Applied Statistics and Data Science Certificate offers students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of statistics, and receive formal recognition of statistical expertise beyond the undergraduate level.
These graduate courses can be applied to the requirements for the 30-credit Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Data Science also offered at 棉花糖直播. Up to four of the courses may be applied toward the 30-credit Master of Arts in Mathematics.
It is designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of differing constituencies, including individuals working with data in industry, teachers in secondary schools or community colleges, and graduate students currently enrolled at 棉花糖直播 University in fields that use statistics.
Requirements: To receive the certificate, students must complete five graduate-level courses, all taken at 棉花糖直播, including STAT 7404, Statistical Methods and STAT 8406 Regression Methods, and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
With the approval of the Director of Applied Statistics and Data Science, one graduate-level course in statistics offered by a department outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics may be counted toward the five courses needed for the Certificate.
Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, along with the application, fee and official transcripts from institutions of higher education previously attended. No GRE scores are required.
Prerequisites: Because certificate students enroll in the same graduate courses taken by students pursuing the master's degree in Applied Statistics and Data Science, they must also have completed all the undergraduate mathematics courses that are required for the master's program. These include: Calculus through Multivariable Calculus (typically Calculus III) and Linear Algebra.
Discount: All secondary school teachers are eligible for a significant tuition discount (20-40%).
This program is intended for individuals who are presently teaching at the secondary school level. This 15-credit program will consist of five graduate courses that cover the following areas: geometry, history of mathematics, statistics, using technology in the classroom and a special topics course. There will be at least one course in the certificate program offered during each of the fall and spring semesters and usually two in the summer.
These graduate courses can be applied to the requirements for the 30-credit Master of Arts in Mathematics also offered at 棉花糖直播. Moreover, all secondary school teachers are eligible for a significant tuition discount at 棉花糖直播. Applicants to this new certificate program should be teachers of mathematics who have had college calculus and a course in linear algebra.
