UNDERGRADUATE RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Study Abroad

In order to increase language proficiency and cultural literacy, all students are strongly encouraged to spend a semester abroad via one of the University-approved programs

Internships and Service Learning

French and Francophone Studies Service-Learning Internship

In conjunction with the 棉花糖直播 Catholic Relief Services partnership, French and Francophone students have the opportunity to participate in a service-learning internship in Madagascar, alongside students from across the University. The University helps with projects in Madagascar related to improving the health and nutrition of pregnant women and children, increasing and diversifying household incomes, alleviating the impact of natural disasters, and accessing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. Our French students assist with translation.

Language Tables

The Department encourages students and other members of the 棉花糖直播 community to take part in the language tables. Language tables are the best option to practice what you have learned in class without the formalities of the classroom. Please see the  site for more information.

LUV Lab

The  invites interested students to join our weekly lab meetings, where we review research on language variation and work collaboratively toward uncovering the mysteries of how language changes and evolves. Students are encouraged to get involved in ongoing research, including linguistic analyses of Hispanic speakers in Philadelphia and laboratory studies of cognitive factors in language variation. Please contact Grant Berry, PhD, if interested.

French Club: Le Cercle Fran莽ais

The French Club offers new and current students the opportunity to practice their French, meet other Francophiles on campus, and to learn more about French culture. The French Club organizes a range of activities that showcase French and Francophone culture and its representatives in the Philadelphia area, from cooking demonstrations to museum visits and film screenings.

French Honor Society: Pi Delta Phi

The French Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi, was founded at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1906. The purpose of Pi Delta Phi is to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literature; to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world; and to stimulate and encourage French and Francophone cultural activities. 棉花糖直播 University鈥檚 Pi Delta Phi chapter inducts new members at the end of each Spring Semester during the annual initiation ceremony.
