MAJOR IN CLASSICAL STUDIES
The Classical Studies Program explores the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, from the beginnings of Greek civilization to the fall of the Roman empire. Our program is interdisciplinary, embracing the study of classical languages, literatures, history, art and archaeology, philosophy and religion.
Classical civilization courses range from perennial favorites like聽Classical Mythology, to archaeology courses such as聽Cities of Ancient Greece听补苍诲听Rome: The Ancient City,聽to thematic courses such as聽Ancient Greece and Rome in Film听补苍诲听Pompeii and Herculaneum. We offer聽undergraduate language courses in Latin and Ancient Greek and a number of upper level literature courses in the original languages鈥攕tudying the work of authors such as Vergil, Ovid, Cicero, Caesar, Homer, Herodotus, and Plato.
