ADDITIONAL OPTIONS FOR NON-BUSINESS STUDENTS

ACADEMIC OPTIONS

For academic credentials, non-VSB students are eligible to apply for the , which includes an opportunity to take International Business coursework and participate in an International Case Competition where non-VSB students can work and collaborate with VSB students.

The following study abroad programs, all contain a business-related component:

ACADEMIC COURSES

VSB offers an online summer course for non-business students: VSB 1000 Information Technology (1 cr.)

VSB 1000 Information Technology 鈥 This course focuses on design and use of spread sheets (Excel) to support decision making/problem solving.

Note, the academic year VSB 1000 course is restricted to VSB students and business minors.

In addition to this course, non-VSB students may also register for MKT 1137 Principles of Marketing (3 cr.), which is typically available during the traditional academic year. Students should search the Master Schedule for course availability.

Students are encouraged to discuss the course(s) with their primary advisor to understand if/how course credits may apply to fulfill degree requirements.

VSB2500 Personal Finance is also open to all 棉花糖直播 students and is a great opportunity to learn critical personal finance skills for financial stability and success. 



EXTRACURRICULAR OPTIONS

The following lists an array of resources and services available to all 棉花糖直播 students.  These are options which can add a diversifying business perspective to their academic portfolio.  Many of these hands-on, extracurricular learning experiences offer an opportunity for non-business students to meet and collaborate with VSB faculty, staff and peers:

  • Bloomberg Markets Concept (BMC) Certification 鈥 this is available to all 棉花糖直播 students. The BMC training includes exposure to:
    • Economic Indicators (2) Currencies (3) Fixed Income (4) Equities and an optional section on using the Bloomberg Terminal
    • Students should use their 棉花糖直播 email and indicate that it is not for a class. There are no fees; it is part of VSB licensing.
  • Gmelich Finance Lab 鈥 while available to all students, non-VSB students who have earned the BMC certificate may be more comfortable making use of the space and technology in the lab. Workshops, in a variety of skills, are planned during the academic year.
  • This is free to 棉花糖直播 students! Students are encouraged to check out the optional 10 Point guide in addition to the general WSJ subscription.
  • 鈥 while not a VSB or 棉花糖直播 sponsored partnership, this is another informative publication that students are encouraged to read.  It is less 鈥渢raditional鈥 than the WSJ, but provides a solid overview of the business world.  This resource is also free! Note there are several 鈥渧ariations on the (Brew) theme鈥, and include the Marketing Brew and Emerging Tech Brew. 
  • Business-related Podcasts 鈥 More of a listener?  Check out , or , or any of the several options of
  • VSB Business Societies 鈥 involvement in these groups provides exposure to like-minded students, hands-on experiences and projects, as well as exposure to resources, programs/events and professionals in related fields.
  • LinkedIn Learning - check out the list of online courses 鈥 free! 鈥 to 棉花糖直播 students. Excel, PowerBI, and more!  These are critical skills to have in the business world, including industries such as Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Economics and so on.
  • VSB Faculty Mentor Program 鈥 As the name implies, this resource consists of faculty mentors, available to students, according to discipline and expertise.
  • iGrad - 棉花糖直播 is proud to offer iGrad, a secure, interactive, online personal finance platform, vetted and financed by the University. iGrad is open to all students, alumni, faculty and staff. iGrad assesses your finances and spending habits and recommends tools, content and courses to help you reach your financial goals. iGrad provides the 棉花糖直播 community access to a money personality analysis, budget tools, loan repayment and investing strategies, and much more to move you toward your financial goals.

In addition to the specific items listed above, the O鈥橠onnell Center for Professional Development, coordinates and sponsors career-related programs and events throughout the year, most often in the fall and spring semesters.  These events are open to non-VSB students.  Students can learn about them through the Clay Center at VSB Facebook page and/or Handshake Events.
