Dr. Ross鈥 program of research has focused on the effect of evidence-based teaching strategies, particularly simulation, on student outcomes. She was one of the first nursing simulation scientists to conduct translational research to explore the impact of simulation training on skill performance in the clinical setting through her dissertation study which explored the impact of simulation training on intramuscular injection competence in the clinical setting. Dr. Ross has received competitive grant funding from Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), the International Nursing Association for Simulation and Clinical Learning (INACSL), and the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) to support her research. Dr. Ross鈥 research is widely disseminated through 39 publications in high-impact nursing education journals, including Nurse Education Today, Clinical Simulation in Nursing, Nursing Education Perspectives, Journal of Nursing Education, and Nurse Educator, as well as regional, national, and international presentations at premier simulation and nursing education conferences, such as the International Meeting of Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH), INACSL Conference, and the NLN鈥檚 Nursing Education Research Conference (NERC).
One of Dr. Ross鈥 recent publications, The Use of Simulation for Clinical Nursing Faculty Orientation: A Multisite Study, was recognized as one of the 2021-2022 Society for Simulation in Healthcare Articles of Influence. Her expertise in simulation science and pedagogical research has led to research collaborations with faculty across the country. She was a nominee for the 2023 inaugural NLN Marilyn H. Oermann Award for Distinguished Research in Nursing Education.
Dr. Ross began teaching full-time at FCN in 2014, after serving as adjunct faculty since 2006.
