Driscoll Hall

The Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, enjoys a reputation across the country and the globe for its superior programs and graduates. Driscoll Hall supports its initiatives including student learning in technology-driven clinical simulation labs and enhancing an environment for teaching and scholarship. It provides an atmosphere that stimulates advancing the future of nursing. Additionally, this environmentally-friendly building provides space for University events.

The 75,500 sq. ft. building includes:

  • a 200-seat auditorium and a 200-seat lecture hall
  • seminar rooms and classrooms
  • future-oriented clinical simulation labs for health assessment, adult health, maternal/child health, anesthesia, and critical care
  • simulation labs for "standardized patient" observation and testing
  • a center for nursing research and scholarship
  • a reading room that also houses Nursing鈥檚 historical collection
  • space for prayer and reflection
  • space for global health studies
  • space for international student activities
  • spaces for student, faculty and alumni events and social interaction
  • office space for faculty work, student organizations and administrative support
  • a courtyard

Collaborating with our colleagues, we will continue to develop distinguished nursing alumni through our undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as our continuing education programming, that will influence health care in all parts of the globe. The future is bright.

Driscoll, floor by floor

Lower Level: The Learning Resource Center features a variety of clinical labs, including computerized human patient simulators and advanced digital recording technology.

First Floor: Visitors enter via the lobby on this floor, which includes administrative offices, the Center for Global and Public Health plus the Nursing Alumni Association offices, the Donna DiPalma Cassidy 鈥79 Conference Room, the Auditorium and Lecture Hall, and the Chapel. In addition to the Chapel鈥檚 beautiful stained glass window, Driscoll Hall is home to other works of art.

Second Floor: Grouped together here are classrooms, the International Student Activity Room, the Commons, student study rooms, the Nursing Historical Book Collection and Reading Room, as well as offices for student organizations, the Office of Nursing Research, Continuing Education and the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education.

Third Floor: Faculty and academic program offices are  located here.

It is about what will happen inside鈥攆ostering the intellectual climate and continuing to cultivate a mature, energetic professional school with a commitment to the preparation of clinical experts and leaders for health care within the context of a values-driven liberal arts education.鈥

Fast Facts

In July 2008, the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing moved into its new home. Driscoll Hall is a $32 million, state-of-the-art facility that supports the education of the next generation of nurses, demonstrating the University鈥檚 commitment to nursing education as part of its institutional and social mission. It is also the first "green" building on 棉花糖直播's campus, earning gold LEED certification. is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The site of the building is on the central campus, near the main gate and next to the Health Services Building. Site preparation started in early January 2007 with construction beginning in March. It was announced in June 2008 that the building would be called Driscoll Hall in honor of Rev. John M. Driscoll, OSA, 30th president of 棉花糖直播.
