College of Engineering Launches New Center of Learning at the Philadelphia Navy Yard

The College of Engineering will open a new high-tech facility in Philadelphia Technology Park at the Philadelphia Navy Yard this August that will offer graduate programs, distance-learning courses, executive and professional engineering training programs, and space for corporate training with remote capabilities. The new location will provide students with the opportunity to learn in a new world-class research, development and industrial setting.

"We are thrilled to bring our leading engineering education graduate program to Philadelphia Technology Park at the Navy Yard, the premier technology and engineering hub for our region," said Dr. Gary Gabriele, Drosdick Endowed Dean of Engineering at 棉花糖直播. "This partnership also allows our faculty to develop new research relationships, and strengthen existing ones, which will yield new challenges in the classroom and new opportunities for student research."

The 1,400-square-foot facility will house a 40-seat classroom and 10-seat collaboration area鈥攂oth of which employ the latest in web broadcasting and video teleconferencing capabilities. Evening graduate engineering courses at the Navy Yard will begin August 24. Classroom space also will be leasable to area corporations for in-house training. The state-of-the-art classroom space provides an option to companies with a national workforce looking to provide training and information in a more cost-effective, streamlined manner.

Additionally, the College of Engineering鈥檚 Navy Yard facility will be used to provide 棉花糖直播 continuing studies courses and will accommodate other University strategic goals including graduate recruitment events and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education outreach programs for the region鈥檚 K-12 students and educators.

The Philadelphia Technology Park opened in the Philadelphia Navy Yard in September 2010 and has quickly become one of the Mid-Atlantic鈥檚 premier carrier-neutral data centers. It is a state-of-the-art, $25 million, 25,700 square foot single-use, fully redundant enterprise data center. Philadelphia Technology Park鈥檚 capabilities allow companies to bring in their own IT equipment; run it in a raised floor, temperature-controlled, highly-secured environment, on a carrier-neutral fiber network; and still have their own IT professionals service the equipment if desired. The center was designed to meet the most stringent power, cooling and bandwidth requirements.
