Dr. Amy Fleischer Named 2010 Woman Engineer by ASME鈥檚 Electronic & Photonic Packaging Division

In recognition of her significant technical achievements in the area of electronic and photonic packaging, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' (ASME) Electronic & Photonic Packaging Division (EPPD) has recognized Dr. Amy Fleischer, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, with its 2010 Woman Engineer Award. The award will be presented at ASME鈥檚 2010 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition, held later this month in Vancouver. 鈥淚鈥檓 grateful for the support of my peers, who voted to give me this award,鈥 says Dr. Fleischer, who chairs the ASME Heat Transfer Division Technical Committee on Electronics Cooling and serves on the Executive Board of the EPPD. 鈥淚 also appreciate the fact that EPPD is a division which is half industry-based and half academic, so to have my research work recognized by those working in both academic research and in actual product design and development is meaningful to me.鈥 The EPPD is concerned with all design and engineering aspects related to theoretical and experimental problems and results associated with the application of methods and approaches of engineering and applied mechanics to the analysis, design, manufacturing, testing and operation of microelectronics, optoelectronics and photonics components, devices, equipment and systems. It also provides leadership to engineers working in these fields. A professional member of ASME for 13 years (after belonging as a student member), Dr. Fleischer has spent the past several years researching the development of a unique nanoenhanced material for energy storage for the transient thermal management of portable electronics.
