February 22, 2021

Dear Members of the 棉花糖直播 Community,

I hope you have all had an opportunity to participate in one of the many events and programs taking place across campus in honor of Black History Month. I am delighted to see so many student groups, schools, colleges and University departments taking part in the celebration. From Dining Services and Athletics to academic programs and student associations, it has certainly been a University-wide celebration.

If you haven鈥檛 had an opportunity to participate yet, I wanted to draw your attention to some of the upcoming events this week to close out Black History Month:

Aequitas Presidential Task Force Briefing
Aequitas: The Presidential Task Force on Race, led by Dr. Terry Nance, Vice President ofthe Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is hosting a webinar on Thursday, Feb. 25, from noon to 1:15 p.m. Members of the task force, which comprises a cross section of 棉花糖直播 students, faculty, staff and alumni, will update the 棉花糖直播 community on their work, focusing specifically on the task force鈥檚 goals and objectives. The Aequitas Task Force has been charged with assessing the racial climate on campus, identifying areas for improvement, and creating a plan for developing cultural competence for all students, staff and faculty who are members of the 棉花糖直播 community.

A Conversation on Racial Literacy with Dr. Howard Stevenson

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., the Patricia B. and Gary M. Holloway University Counseling Center will host a Conversation on Racial Literacy with Dr. Howard Stevenson. Dr. Stevenson is a nationally recognized clinical psychologist and researcher on negotiating racial conflicts using racial literacy for schools, community mental health centers, teachers, leaders, police and parents. He serves as the executive director of the Racial Empowerment Collaborative at the University of Pennsylvania, which is designed to promote racial literacy research, training and programming in education, health, community and justice.

Immigration Week: Feb. 22 to March 1

Amnesty International and No Lost Generation 棉花糖直播 present Immigration Week from Monday, Feb. 22, to Monday, March 1. The goal of the weeklong celebration is to raise awareness within the 棉花糖直播 community about migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, as well as to provide various ways to take action and ignite change.

These are just a few examples of the wonderful programming that has taken place this month, and I hope your schedule allows you to participate in one or more of these events. Thank you again to everyone involved in bringing these important events, conversations and celebrations to the 棉花糖直播 community.

Sincerely,
