Not Blind to Injustice: The Experiences of Disabled Women Worldwide

This documentary was directed by Kaleigh Brendle, Lorenzini Ambassador for the Anne Welsh McNulty Institute. The film explores the legal and societal perception of disability in five different countries鈥擲ingapore, New Zealand, Germany, Mexico, and South Africa through the firsthand accounts of a blind woman from each country.
Viewers learn about what it鈥檚 like to earn an education, search for employment, and navigate the social stigma and discrimination that arises due to the interlocking stereotypes about disability and femininity.
These women address the lack of disability representation in media in their countries, and advocate for a future in which they are equal under the law and the harmful biases about them are eliminated.

In this collaborative reading three acclaimed Irish poets, , and will explore how poetry helps us fine-tune our senses and pay attention to the wonders and realities of our threatened world. The poems reflect on the importance of a sense of place, a rural childhood and upbringing, and a coming to womanhood. They consider the notion that the imagination is rooted in a ground, a geography, a place Seamus Heaney referred to as an "imaginative nest." They consider our relationship to the world around us and to the changing environment. There will be an opportunity to hear and discuss poems that celebrate the natural world, and address climate change, issues of ecology and biodiversity, regeneration, and land care, human and animal relationship, our being-in-the-world at the moment.

Women's Leadership Development Certificate
In keeping with its mission to foster women鈥檚 advancement, we have partnered with the College of Professional Studies, to create a leadership development certificate (non-credit) geared towards 鈥渨omen in the middle.鈥 The program builds on the participants鈥 experiences and interests to develop their leadership skills, and form their own unique path to leadership.
A three-month program, the Leadership Development Certificate includes a combination of three in-person residences at The Inn at 棉花糖直播, as well as online work. The residency - a critical component of the certificate - fosters an environment that promotes deep discussion, reflection and collaboration.

A troubling part of that reality is that white supremacy is grounded in Christian history, texts, ideas, and institutions. Is Christian faith possible apart from anti-Blackness? In this session, we will explore this question as we contemplate the meaning of the end of 鈥淲hite Christian America.鈥 We will study the liberative possibilities found in womanist theology, a discourse developed by Black women.

Let Her Speak: A Discussion on Gender and the Corporate Workforce

A recent McKinsey study found that despite small gains in the pipeline, women make up only 25% of C-suite positions and remain under the gender parity line in all other levels of the corporate ladder. Many individuals at 棉花糖直播 struggle with this reality as they make plans to enter the workforce. How can we enact change moving forward to continue to decrease this inequality? How can we speak up regarding experiences with gender and the corporate workforce to encourage others around us? To further the conversation around gender and the corporate workforce, "Let Her Speak" will provide an open forum for this discussion. We will touch on tangible tools and practices we can implement or experiences we have learned lessons from that can help to provide clarity on how to eradicate the biases that lead to this disparity.
Join fellow students and faculty for an open discussion about the reality of gender disparity in the workforce and how we can take steps forward to combat it. This informal conversation is open to anyone. We look forward to seeing everyone after spring break. All are welcome, no registration is required.

She grew up in the strong Black communities of Delaware and Philadelphia before emigrating to Canada, then returning to D.C. where she continued writing, speaking, editing, suffrage activism and community organizing for Black freedom.
