VILLANOVA SOCIAL IMPACT COMPETITION

The Impact Competition is a collegiate case competition that addresses a unique social issue each year by directly partnering with an area nonprofit organization. Teams of students develop effective solutions for the most pressing issues affecting the communities they live in, with the winning team receiving funds that allow them to fully implement their idea.

The ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Social Impact Competition is an annual case competition hosted by the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in partnership with the Department of Public Service and Administration and the ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ School of Business. Each year, we partner with a local nonprofit organization whose mission addresses a pressing social issue and aligns with ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Augistinian values. Together, we develop a problem statement that outlines a specific challenge that faces the nonprofit. Students work on teams to develop ideas that address the problem and pitch their idea to a panel of judges from ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥, the partner organization, and Impact Competition. The team that presents the most compelling, sustainable idea receives $10,000 towards bringing their idea to reality with the partner organization and a work stipend.

Our 2024 partner organization is based in Doylestown, PA.  A bit about them:

Established in 2015, The Next Step Programs is all about paving the way for young adults with disabilities as they step out of high school. Our core belief is simple yet powerful: individuals with disabilities deserve every chance to immerse themselves in all aspects of life. This includes opportunities for higher education, independent living, building social networks, and playing an active role in their communities.

TNS is recognized as a qualified waiver provider by PA’s Office of Developmental Programs. Our Explore program is a testament to our mission, offering a community-based day program that’s rich in new opportunities and meaningful experiences.

Evenings at TNS are bustling with activity across our different social groups. It’s here that we focus on socializing with our peers and exploring different interest areas – from culinary arts to fitness, and from independent living to creative expression.

Friday nights are for our Friends Night Out, where we’re out exploring everything our local communities have to offer. These outings range from rock climbing and bowling to dining out and attending professional sporting events – a true taste of what our neighborhoods have in store.

Our newest program Explore+, is where we organize overnight trips for young adults, providing them with experiences to build independence and life skills. Our adventures have taken us to places like Holland, Michigan, and the Great Wolf Lodge in Poconos, PA, staying in their newest villas.

  • This competition is a graded assignment in VSB 3900 - H01 & VSB 3900 - H02.
