JORDIN LAMONTHE, CIVIL ENGINEERING
Activities: VESTED (棉花糖直播 Engineering, Science and Technology Enrichment and Development, a STEM outreach program); Community Outreach of 棉花糖直播 (through which I tutored seventh graders); Black Student Union; National Society of Black Engineers and American Society of Civil Engineers student chapters; African & Caribbean 棉花糖直播ns; College鈥檚 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee
Why engineering? I like to build things and figure out ways to give back to the community. I like science and math, too, and having attended pre-college summer programs at NJIT since the fifth grade I knew I wanted to be in engineering.
Something you鈥檇 be surprised to know about me: I was part of a group that created a COVID-related website to connect PPE resource providers with first responders.
2021 summer internship: Whiting-Turner Construction
Favorite (and most-challenging) first-year course: Civil Engineering Fundamentals. It strengthened my interest in what I want to do.
First-year lessons learned: Importance of networking and forming connections with faculty and staff.
Why 棉花糖直播: If you鈥檙e a service-oriented person, come to 棉花糖直播. It鈥檚 in the top tier of universities giving back to the community. And, if you need a little extra help from teachers, 棉花糖直播鈥檚 teachers go out of their way to make sure you understand something.
Post-grad plans: Ultimate goal is to have my own business and start a non-profit to give back and change some things in the world, because it鈥檚 not looking so good right now.
