NCAA AND INSTITUTIONAL ELIGIBILITY

The following information is intended to assist student-athletes in their academic progress and degree completion.

An undergraduate student-athlete must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. A graduate student-athlete must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, spanning the duration of the semester.

In order to maintain eligibility, a student-athlete must have successfully:

  • Completed twenty-four (24) credit hours prior to the start of the student-athlete's second year of collegiate enrollment
  • Completed eighteen (18) credit hours in the fall and spring semesters
  • Passed six (6) credit hours during the preceding regular academic term*

*Football student-athletes must complete nine (9) credit hours during the fall semester each year.

An undergraduate student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at all times; however, a first-semester freshman student-athlete must earn at least a 1.7 GPA to be eligible in the subsequent spring semester.

Be advised that under no circumstances is any student-athlete permitted to drop or WX (official withdraw) a course or credits that would place him/her below the twelve (12) credit minimum without previous approval from the athletic advisor in the Office of Academic Support for Athletics. Such action without approval renders the student-athlete immediately ineligible to practice or compete for any intercollegiate team.

A student-athlete must designate a program of study (declare a major) leading toward a specific baccalaureate degree before the beginning of the third year (fifth semester) of enrollment.

A student-athlete entering his/her third year of enrollment shall have completed 40 percent of the course requirements toward his/her degree, entering the fourth year, 60 percent, and entering the fifth year of enrollment shall have completed 80 percent of courses required toward his/her degree.
