    College of Engineering Announces 2021 Ward Lecturer: Lillian Dukes ’87 MSEE

    Engineers’ Week 2021 culminates on February 26 with the College’s annual Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering. The 2021 Ward lecturer is Lillian Dukes ’87 MSEE, a highly experienced senior operations leader who is currently senior vice president of Technical Operations at Atlas Air. She will address the College of Engineering community on “How Good Engineers Craft Great Careers.”

    Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design Courses Better Reflect Industry Trends

    Mechanical Engineering’s required, two-semester capstone design course is focused on design – build – test projects that enable students to be hands-on, as well as gain prototyping and troubleshooting experience. Teams interacts directly with their customers—many are industry sponsored—to develop a precise scope of work and validate the design work as it progresses to ensure it satisfies their requirements.

    NovaCANE Adapts STEM Outreach to Virtual Format

    Since 2009, NovaCANE—棉花糖直播 Community Action by New Engineers—has sent 棉花糖直播 engineering students into the classrooms of local sixth through eighth graders where they teach STEM lessons and guide students through hands-on experiments. This fall, given COVID restrictions, lessons took place virtually and were limited to two schools. Despite the challenges, students enjoyed the experience.

    The Humanitarian Engineer podcast, produced by 棉花糖直播’s Center for Humanitarian Engineering and International Development, has released a three-part series about the humanitarian crisis on the US-Mexico border. Hear from an attorney assisting asylum series in the refugee camp in Matamoros, Mexico; learn from Christa Cook ’19 MSSE about the technical challenges faced; and listen to Dison, an asylum seeker living in the camp.
